Why You Should be Grateful for the Year 2020
To say the year 2020 was anything but calamitous would be an immense understatement.
We lost great talents with the passing of Kobe Byrant and Eddie Van Halen, witnessed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quit the royal family, beheld the devastation of wildfires in Australia and the western United States, and many more unfathomable events.
And all the while, the worst global pandemic in a hundred years raged on.
It may be difficult during such trying times to see any bright spots among the darkness. Yet, as Mahatma Gandhi remarked, “in the midst of darkness, light persists.” Sometimes, we just need to take a moment to look for it.
If 2020 taught us anything, it is gratitude. For many of us, this was the year we thought we would get everything we always wanted. But instead, we now know 2020 is the year to appreciate everything we have.
While we hope 2021 will be better than the year prior, let us use 2020 to fortify our resolve, strengthen our personal character, and remind us that what matters most is deserving of our appreciation and love.
So next year, let us be kind to one another and supply our own light whenever darkness falls.
