SimpliSafe vs. Ring, Which is Right for You?
As a homeowner, securing your property and protecting your family is important. Luckily, today’s technology offers us a wide range of home security solutions. Rising to the top are SimpliFi and Ring. Both systems use the latest technology to secure our homes. But which one is best for you? Let’s dig in
SimpliSafe
The first to broadly penetrate the do-it-yourself security market, SimpliSafe has had a jump on the competition. Unlike traditional systems, there are no wires or plugs, instead, their systems rely solely on batteries. Here’s if what I like about the SimpliSafe system:
- Easy to install
- Video monitoring
- No monthly contract
- Ability to purchase a la carte
One of SimpliSafe’s strong suits is the ability to build your own custom system. Further, the system provides video monitoring which great to check in on pets, the babysitter, or anytime you are away. But this does come at a cost. Both the hardware and monthly pricing are nearly double than Ring.
A few other drawbacks are the lack of outdoor cameras and any significant home automation integration. Their 3-warranty is reassuring, however, and they receive the highest reviews among the competition.
Ring
Amazon has their hands in practically every aspect of our lives. This now includes home security. Ring played catch up fast and made a name for itself when it introduced the video doorbell. Other features I like include:
- 24/7/365 customer service
- Home automation included
- Variety of available devices
Ring’s attractiveness lies in their home automation capability. Integrating with third-party devices like Schlage’s door locks GE light switches, Ring provides endless security capabilities; although you will have to buy a basic start-up kit as a la carte isn’t available.
Ring also doesn’t provide video monitoring and only a one-year warranty on their devices. As a newer player to the home security market, their monthly cost savings may not quite be enough to overcome these shortfalls.
The Winner
If a 3-year warranty, longevity in the market, and the ability to pick and choose your security devices is important for you, SimpliSafe is the security system for you. However, if the capability of integrating devices you already own and lower monthly cost is attractive, Ring your best choice.
Like most things in life, personal opinion will guide you to making the right decision for you and your family. The bottom line is both systems do exactly what you want them to do – protect your home and family.
